Our club offers several highly valuable projects to the community:

Live Your Dream: Soroptimist’s Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education grant for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Our club awards grants to 1 to 4 women annually in the amount of $250-$1000 depending on our club’s budget each year. Apply at this link.

Dream It Be It: Reaches girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Through small group workshops or a conference setting, we mentor girls on setting and achieving their goals, moving forward after setbacks or failures, and discovering career opportunities. 2021’s DIBI program will be our club’s 2nd annual program!

Project 680: Our club assumed leadership of Project 680 in 2022. Project 680 is an organization comprised of some of our club members, members of the Anatolia Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Folsom Cordova USD staff, and Rancho Cordova community members that works to provide needed items so that Rancho Cordova “homeless” students have what they need to be successful in school.

Veteran Support: We’ve donated items to new mothers who are veterans, socks for veterans to wear while receiving medical treatment such as dialysis and chemotherapy, filled holiday stockings, and cases of vitamin-fortified water, juice, and healthy snacks to healthcare workers at the Mather VA Hospital at the height of the pandemic crisis in 2020.

Comfort Kits: A heavy duty canvas tote bag filled with a 30 day supply of toiletries and personal care items given to survivors of domestic violence who have the courage to seek assistance from Women Escaping A Violent Environment (WEAVE) and the Sacramento Family Justice Center. Our club recently assembled and delivered approximately 100 Comfort Kits to the Sacramento Family Justice Center.

Comfort Kid Kits: A drawstring back pack filled with items for the children that these courageous women bring with them to the WEAVE safe house. Women frequently leave their violent partners in the middle of the night and children are frequently forced to leave all their toys and items of comfort behind. This is very traumatic for a child, so we hope to give them a few things to help comfort them, like a blanket, stuffed animal, and a few toys to help them restart their lives too.

Dress A Girl Around the World: Dresses are created for young girls all over the world, who don’t have a nice dress to wear. Traffickers frequently target shabbily dressed girls because they appear that no one cares about them or will miss them. By providing a nice dress to these girls, we hope to reduce the number of potential trafficker targets.

“Supporting” At-Risk Teen Girls project: Teen girls who come from economically-challenged environments, frequently do not have decent bra. These girls are so ashamed, that they will accept an “F” in their physical education class, rather than suffer the humiliation of dressing down into their PE uniforms in front of their peers. When the homeless liaison identifies girls in need, we make an appointment with the girl to meet her at Walmart or Target to buy brand new and properly-fitted bras, panties and socks for these young women.

We also purchase nursing bras and provide Comfort Kits to students attending the Adolescent Parent Program at Walnutwood High School, to help them continue their studies and graduate high school, rather than settle for a GED, or drop-out of school entirely.
